iChapters

On the same "green" theme, I recently got an email from someone about iChapters, which is a textbook retailer that focuses on eBooks and eChapters.  They have a presence on Facebook as well.  Their prices are pretty good, but the cool thing is that they plant trees:

Every time you buy one of our eBooks or eChapters, we will plant a tree in your honor through Paso Pacifico, our Non-Profit tree planting partner. We also hope that you will join this effort by planting as many trees as you wish.

iChapters is one of the sites that sells electronic editions of textbooks. Not all of the rest plant trees (that I know of), but if you are looking for more places, I've started a list.

EcoLibris does something similar, only they send you stickers for a buck each to put on books or whatever. Each dollar spent equals a tree planted. They've partnered with BookMooch, too.

I got the same email and had a look at ichapter's ToS. Hoo boy--if possible, it's worse than Amazon's for the Kindle. You don't purchase the material--it's not yours to keep. For most titles, you lease it for 6 mos, and have to reauthenticate every 60 days. Only accessible from 2 computers. Right click disable. At the end of 6 months, you have to re-lease it at full price of first lease. http://www.ichapters.com/market/terms.html Planting a tree just doesn't make up for that kind of crap.
