Snap makes me crazy
Snap, that site that creates little pop-up bubbley things with previews of the webpage for any link on your site, drives me nuts. Absolutely bonkers. Totally crazy. I was happy to see I was not alone when the Depraved Librarian blogged about the craziness of Snap, linking to an article from Performance entitled: "3 Reasons Why Snap Preview is Ruining Your Blog, and Hurting Your Readership." From the article:
The fact that so many big blogs are using it, big well respected blogs, does not mean that it's useful, it just means that they, like most bloggers, have all the self restraint of a magpie in a sparkly things factory.
Some of the very good library and technology blogs I read do use Snap currently. Consider this my formal plea to stop. It's annoying and really just one of those useless gizmos that plague the web.

Ewww...I hate Snap too. Another way to block Snap - if you use Firefox - is just to treat it like any other annoying ad and filter it via Adblock.

Wow--thanks Edwin! I didn't even think to see if that was possible, as it didn't strike me as something that would be turn-off-able. Thank you!

There was a recent post on lifehacker that tells you how to disable Snap previews. I haven't actually tried it, but it looks simple enough. It was posted on January 31st. Here is the link:

I couldn't agree more. I ran it for about a week and it even drove ME crazy (no-one else said anything). And I thoroughly agree about the magpie'ness. I did the same thing with My Clusty Cloud - how you can resist, at least for a little time? But My LibraryThing and My flickr stay - because they are informative and load quickly and unobtrusively.

Amen!

I agree completely (Use of Snap is up there with websites that play audio automatically). Next time you come across one, select the faint "options" link in the upper right corner of the pop-up window, and you'll get the chance to opt out of all snap windows. seems to be working for me so far.

You can disable the previews. I'm glad I came across this, because I dislike them too.

You're decidedly not alone on this one. "Bonkers" is, I think, a well-chosen term: I couldn't say it better.
