More on library toolbars

It seems that more and more libraries are gravitating to the Effective Toolbar creator for creating a library toolbar: 121 in fact!  As I posted before, I think this is good--it's a clean interface, looks easy to do, and is completely 100% free.  Why not provide a downloadable toolbar with useful library links and search capabilities?  I guarantee staff will find it useful, not to mention the public!

Bill Drew has pulled together toolbar screenshots from several libraries.  You can see all the different choices they've made for what buttons to include, wording choices (catalog vs. library catalog), and icons.

Stephen Abram suggests some ways for libraries to market their downloadable toolbars once they have them.  Target parents, specialized clubs, businesses, and community leaders.  People like downloading things.  Offer this as one choice!  The time investment to create it is minimal, and the payoff in usefulness is well worth it.
