Walking in the Sun: Sarah Gets a New Job
Yesterday I accepted a position with the San Mateo County Library as the Information and Web Services Manager. I will begin my responsibilities there on April 3rd.
I will be responsible for (according to my new job description) “the planning, development, and implementation of services related to public information services, staff and public training programs, and technology/web services including the system’s eBranch (http://smcl.org).”
I had the honor of speaking to the SMCL staff at their All Staff Day last month. I felt very welcomed and sensed an overriding positive energy in the staff’s attitude toward technology and eResources/eServices. I was instantly impressed by the fact that their website is considered a branch. It’s clear that the Library is dedicating staff and funds to improving their online presence.
I am really looking forward to working with SMCL staff to enhance the services offered by the eBranch, expand staff and public training on eResources and eServices, and explore the constantly expanding frontier of technology with the aim of serving the public as best we can. I already have a lot of ideas for things to consider (no peeking though, you’ll have to wait until I get there).
None of my extracurricular professional activities will be affected. I will be at PLA later this month. My work here on LibrarianInBlack will continue. I will continue my work on the California Library Association’s Assembly and Information Technology Section, and LITA’s Top Technology Trends Committee. I will continue writing my book for ALA Techsource on technology competencies and training. My consulting work as an instructor for Infopeople will also continue. I’ll be around—say hi if you get a chance.

I'm far behind on my blog-reading (no internet at home at the moment!), but allow me to offer you belated but no less sincere congratulations on the new job! I looked at a job at SMCL awhile ago, actually, and it does sound like a great place--even greater, I'm sure, with LiB on board.
