Heavyweights Beware: Alternatives to Traditional Virtual Reference Products: Virtual Reference Desk Conference

I was lucky and got the first slot on the second day of the conference, so people had just been coffee-ed up and were wide awake.  I discussed the problems with web-based chat products (oh yes, there are a lot of them, and I’m calling them to task, gosh darn it) and the current three main alternatives to traditional web-based chat products, as I see them, anyway: instant messaging (IM), text messaging (SMS), and JYBE.
