Google Local for Mobile
Okay, I'm not a true dork. My cell phone is very simple: no text messaging, no camera, no web surfing. It's really just a phone. I admit my lack of gadget dorkitude fully and freely. If someone wants to buy me a Treo, I'll gladly switch ;)
Buuuuut, if you are a mobile-head, check out Google Local for Mobile: contact info, maps, and satellite images for US locations. Chris Sherman has a great article about it at SearchEngineWatch.

Hmmm, so Rory...are you saying that I'm indeed dorky, just not cool? ;) In all seriousness, though, I agree with your assessment of the effect of user-friendliness on mass adoption.

I think cell phones with a lot of features are an example of technology moving out of geek zone and into cool zone. Among the students at the university where I work, a camera phone with sms is a requirement for being cool and doesn't have even a whiff of geekiness to it.
I think the transition has to do with how user-friendly newer technologies are, as well as how technology-literate "generation y" is (or whatever you want to call them). I think the days of computers being for geeks is pretty much in the past. (Computer programming is still for geeks, but being able to make a stylish web page is simply cool.)
