Blogger asks for RSS @ Library...and gets it

Remember the blogger who asked for RSS at his library?  He got it...here's their new website with RSS feeds galore.

Interestingly enough, one of our patrons recently asked for more RSS feeds on our website (besides the one feed we have for our blog).  It's on my long to-do list, and you know I'm an RSS-freak, but it's a battle just to keep services we already have running, much less devote time to something completely new.  It makes me sad, but that's what happens when you're understaffed.

» Ann Arbor District Library's Website Receiving Rave Reviews from Yezbick.com: If It's Weird, Flip It Over and Check - It Might Be a Yezbick
The Ann Arbor District Library's redesign of their website is receiving a lot of attention, and rightly so. Giving AADL.org a very quick onceover, I am extremely jealous. Compare it with my local library's background image - and you can... [Read More]

There certainly is a lot more to it...I really like the blogs for all the different areas, though I wonder (not to spoil anything) if the bulk of the patrons know what "blog" means? You can have a blog without calling it one... Keep in mind that this is like the pot calling the kettle black, because we're calling our library's blog a blog... I think I will have much to learn from Ann Arbor's site composition the next time I do a re-design for our site. Very inspiring!

Thanks for the link!

There's really a lot more to it than RSS - what seems to be at least as important as the RSS feeds of book recommendations and materials on hold and storytelling times is the ability for patrons and staff to use comments to keep in touch with what is going on and to express their opinions. Suddenly there is this whole online community forming around people who are engaged with their library.

(and I'm personally really happy that I don't even have to show a library card some times when I go to pick up books because the circulation librarians know how to spell my name!)
