HMO warns against Google Desktop

I went to make a...ummm...*ahem* yearly appointment with my HMO, Kaiser, and saw a big warning splayed across its members page about Google Desktop Search.   I read it, was impressed that Kaiser gave a hoot, and then thought, "I wonder if this has made its way into the blogosphere yet?"  Lo and behold, it had...at one of my favorite blogs: Free Range Librarian.  Karen seen the same thing and wrote about it quite nicely.  From her post:

I was impressed that Kaiser cared enough to warn its users that Google Desktop might retain medical information on the "wrong" computer....It's an interesting document, and I recommend you read Kaiser's advice and think about public computers.

I must admit that I've had bad experiences with Kaiser as a health care provider (oy, have I), but am happy to see them warning their patients about privacy conerns.  Good for them!
