How to Fix your CD Player

Well, if I was a junk pack-rat and still had all the CD players I've thrown away because they stopped reading CDs, I'd use this Kuro5hin article on how to fix your CD player. Apparently, the little laser-eye head just gets misaligned. Since I don't have any lying around (because I'm a compulsive cleaner/throw-away-er), I'll just have to print it out and save it for that inevitable day when another CD player breaks...

Re: E99
That's usually an Error read - I've gotten this when my car battery had died and I need to put in a "code" to reset it. Then it will work again.
Luckily I purchased the car from a friend who remembered the code!!!

my cd player says it is OPEN and wont play cds when it is in fact, CLOSED. This is very annoying, and happens frequently.

I wish I'd read all the way to the last email and maybe i wouldn't have had to chuck away my Aiwa triple play midi system.

One piece of advice before you do anything else:

CLEAN THE LASER.

After trashing my Aiwa, I dismantled my Sharp system, but there was nothing to adjust so I cleaned the lens and it's working fine.

Thanks to the pro's for their advice. Wish i'd read it sooner.

John.

If it was simply a matter of smacking it really hard on one certain point, I'd probably try it on my recently replaced mini-stereo CD player. However, I think I'll pass on this one. ;)
